USACE | Debris Removal

Clearance of Right of Ways (ROW) and Clearing of Temporary Disposal Sites South

After Typhoon Mawar, PFM was contracted to clear the Right of Ways (ROWs) along Government-owned public roads across Guam. The primary objective was to restore access and ensure the safety of these areas by efficiently removing debris and transporting it to designated disposal sites. Prior to beginning the debris removal process, PFM worked in close collaboration with personnel from the U.S.Army Corps of Engineers to conduct a thorough survey of the affected areas. This step ensured that both the scope of the work and the logistical challenges were fully understood before operations began.Once the survey was complete, PFM's team proceeded with clearing the debris, which included a variety of materials such as vegetative waste, construction debris, whitegoods, and metals. At the designated disposal sites, PFM utilized specialized equipment to grind vegetation in place, reducing the volume of green waste and expediting its processing. In handling white goods, the team carefully sorted through appliances, identifying eligible items for proper recycling. These appliances were then safely transported to approved recycling facilities, ensuring they were disposed of in an environmentally responsible manner. PFM also managed construction debris by segregating treated lumber, which was sent to the Layon landfill, while the remaining materials were shredded on-site to facilitate efficient disposal.Additionally, PFM ensured that metals at the disposal sites were properly handled and disposed of according to regulations. By following these stringent processes, PFMhelped minimize environmental impact while contributing to a safer and cleaner community in the aftermath of the typhoon.
